Hawaii Salt Alea Red Gold Deep red from Alaea clay, mildly salty and slightly earthy. Crunchy crystals for a striking look and a fine finish.

· Category: decorative salt – sea salt with Alaea clay (Hawaii)
· Taste: mildly salty, mineral; delicate crunch, slightly earthy-nutty note
· Use: finish on fish, seafood, grilled meat; avocado, eggs, potatoes, grilled vegetables; also on dark chocolate or caramel
· Format: 160 g jar; 300 g stand-up pouch

My tip: Don’t cook with it – scatter 1–2 pinches at the end; the red colour stands out especially strongly against light components (fish, egg, vegetables).

Decorative salt!

Origin & Story

This deep-red salt comes from the Hawaiian island of Molokai. There it is harvested in open salt gardens – through the natural evaporation of Pacific water under the sun. After drying, the salt is mixed with red volcanic earth known as Alaea. This mineral-rich clay gives the salt not only its striking colour but also a slightly earthy, almost nutty note. Its traditional use goes back a long way: in Hawaiian culture, Alaea salt was a firm part of cleansing rituals and ceremonial dishes.

Highlights

Red Gold is a salt with character. The crystals shimmer in warm red and recall raw sandstone. They are firm, slightly crunchy and taste mildly salty with a hint of minerality. The light iron note in the background makes it especially fitting with grilled meat and fish, but also with chocolate or caramelised nuts. Visually it's an eye-catcher – restrained in taste, but present.

Quality

Hawaii Salt Red Gold consists of unrefined sea salt and pure Alaea earth. It contains no additives, no anti-caking agents and is hand-mixed using traditional methods. The salt is rich in natural minerals such as iron, potassium and magnesium – noticeable in the texture, visible in the colour and tasteable in the result.

Tip from Tobias Funke

"I like to use Red Gold where it's purely about looks." For example on a carpaccio of butterfish with lemon oil.

  • As a finish on fish, seafood or grilled meat
