Chips Spice Blend
Ab CHF 10.–
Chips seasoning is made for freshly fried or baked potatoes. Flor de Sal, paprika, smoke and a little chilli give crispiness, aroma and the right bite – whether double-cooked chips, wedges or baked potatoes.
- Category: Spice blend for chips
- Taste: Salty base, paprika, light smoky note, subtle heat
- Use: Chips (double-cooked), wedges, baked potatoes, roasted vegetables
- Format: 110 g jar / 1000 g stand-up pouch
My tip: Season the chips immediately after the second frying, while they are still hot. Coat them with a touch of oil, sprinkle the seasoning over and toss briefly – that way it bonds optimally with the surface.
Origin & Story
The history of chips reaches back to the 17th century. In the region of Belgium and northern France, the technique of cooking raw potato strips in hot fat emerged – at first fried once, later twice. This two-stage method – first at a low, then at a high temperature – was perfected in Belgium and to this day shapes the worldwide idea of crispy, golden chips.
In Belgium, chips are considered a dish in their own right. Their preparation is understood there as a culinary craft – with carefully chosen potato varieties, defined fats and a high standard of texture. Their spread via France into international gastronomy has made chips a firm part of modern food culture.
Highlights
This blend was developed specifically for seasoning freshly made chips. Flor de Sal forms the base – a mineral salt with a clear, fine grain. Smoked salt and smoked paprika reinforce the roasted aromas and bring a subtle smokiness into play. Sweet paprika provides a warm, harmonious base note.
Chipotle chilli gives the blend a light heat with a lingering finish. Cumin and coriander add earthy spice, garlic brings depth, and Malabar pepper rounds off the aromatic picture precisely. The interplay is balanced, clear and deliberately tuned to the point where chips turn from a side into a dish in their own right.
Quality
All ingredients are all-natural and processed with no additives, anti-caking agents or flavourings. The blend is made entirely at Manufaktur Funke in Heiden AR – batch by batch, by hand, with consistent control over every processing step.
The best spices have always inspired me to create new dishes. Only the best is good enough to reach the very top – for you, in your kitchen. 100% natural. Just the way I use it myself, every day.
Tip from Tobias Funke
Chips should be seasoned right after the second cooking stage – still hot, coated with a touch of oil. Spread the seasoning evenly over the potatoes and toss briefly. That way the blend bonds optimally with the surface without weighing it down. PS. Try replacing part of your frying oil with pure beef fat one day – the result will amaze you.
